Heron in the Leet 3

aheron28

I think this was a young heron, just learning to catch small fry from the river, by the small weir on Leet Water.  It seemed less aware of people than usual with herons, and so I stood on the bridge and photographed it from above for several minutes, while it stalked about, obviously on the qui vive for morsels; though the most it seemed to get were insects and maybe a tiny fish.

    • Hi, Seonaid. Lovely to hear from you. I was pleased to be able to take photos of this heron without it taking wing. It amused me, how concentrated it was on catching minute titbits from the river. It seems to be at home in this spot, balancing on the edge of the weir, or stalking through the greenery, or standing balanced on the willow branches that hang over Leet Water. The camera my son and family gave me for Christmas does help to get clearer shots from far off, as well as detailed close-up images of flowers and insects.
