Five Ducks, Golden Water

Ducks

The low winter sun shining on the water of the Tweed creates this November silhouette which for some reason reminds me of the tonality of some of Arthur Rackham’s illustrations to “Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens”, pictures that I loved when I was young. And still do.

    • Hi, Seonaid. I like it that you like the light, as your pictures are full of beautiful light. I waited for the ducks to get in position, and got the shot when one swam forward so that in the photograph it was on the other side of the big foreground tree silhouette. Quite often ducks are rather far away to be interesting subjects, but as small silhouettes they read nicely, so it was obliging of them to line up like that.

    • Nice to have something so restrained in tone, and yet golden. Not often the weather is good for getting out with a camera at the moment here in the Scottish Borders, so I snatch the afternoons moments when I can…. at the moment I am doing a Coldstream Christmas card, so am confined to the studio, but it is nearly finished, so hopefully I can take it to the printers on Friday. Then I can go out looking for some more golden winter light – I suppose it is nearly winter now, though we don’t get the really cold weather usually until January.
