Fledgling 3

Fledgling 3This whiskery, tiny  fledgling was hopping about in Gas Lane, a cut up to the Main Street where walkers and dogs go up and down.  Just round the corner two black and white cats, that look like twins, are usually sitting on the qui vive on their yard step.  However, this bird was in the back lane to my certain knowledge for two days, scuttling up and down, covering quite a distance in its attempt to get away from passers-by.  It was  just beginning to fly (it had managed to get up on to the raised wall beside the path when I took these photographs).  It had no discernible tail.  An agitated mother was cheeping among the leaves overhead.  Today when I went up Gas Lane there was no sign of the bird, and no little scattering of feathers, so I am hoping its pathetic hoppy flights have taken it out of harm’s way.  I don’t know what kind of fledgling it is, possibly a robin.

    • Such a funny little fellow, in such an exposed place – I hope he survived. He was just beginning to fly, and was obviously being fed. I liked the halo of fluff round his head.
